National Biosafety Framework:
Workshops

  • The first workshop.
  • The second workshop : The objective of this workshop was to present and study the main features of the Cartagena Protocol with regard to biosafety issues. The target audience included biotechnology and biosafety experts, university researchers, professors and students in biotechnology related fields, and representatives from environmental NGOs.
  • The third and fourth workshop : At these workshops a specialised audience of experts, researchers and post graduate university students were present. The themes discussed covered, risk assessment and management, public awareness and participation with regard to biosafety issues.
  • The fifth workshop: The target audience at this workshop were journalists from various general as well as specialised newspapers and magazines. The themes presented and discussed covered the Cartagena Protocol, biosafety risk assessment and management, and the role of journalists with regard to public awareness in biotechnology and biosafety.

The second training workshop : National workshop for executive options of Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

The objective of this workshop was to present modern biotechnology and genetical engineering, as well as to study the main features of the Cartagena Protocol with regard to biosafety issues. The target audience included biotechnology and biosafety experts, university researchers, professors and students in biotechnology related fields, and representatives from environmental NGOs. The two-days workshop was held on 25 and 26 October 2003, at the Department of Environment, Pardisan Park. The Agenda was the following:

The list of workshop participants is provided in Farsi. Two newspaper articles on food security were presented and discussed at the workshop, both articles are in Farsi: food security and the risks to human health in Iran, food production and consumer needs.

The overall quality of the workshop was rated by the participants according to the following criteria:

  • Organization,
  • Venue and location,
  • Workshop information sources,
  • Quality of the presentations.

The third and fourth workshop of experts on Biosafety risk assessment and management, public awareness and participation

At these workshops a specialised audience of experts, researchers and post graduate university students were present. The themes discussed covered, risk assessment and management, public awareness and participation with regard to biosafety issues. These workshops were held respectively on 18 and 29 December 2003, at the Department of Environment, Pardisan Park.The Agenda for the two days was the following:

The fifth workshop for journalists on the Cartagena Protocol, biosafety risk assessment and management, and the role of journalists in public awareness raising.

The target audience at this workshop were journalists from various general as well as specialised newspapers and magazines. The themes presented and discussed covered the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, biosafety risk assessment and management, and the role of journalists with regard to public awareness in biotechnology and biosafety. This worshop was held on 7 January 2004, at the Department of Environment, Pardisan Park. The Agenda was the following:
