Welcome to Iran's Biosafety web site
Iran's Biosafety Web site has been set up under the National Biosafety Framework project. The implementation of this capacity building project is aimed at assisting the I. R. of Iran to develop its National Biosafety Framework, in accordance with the overall objective of the UNEP/GEF Programme for Development of National Biosafety Frameworks, as approved by the November 2000 GEF Council meeting.
This web site has been set up in order to provide:
- to provide general information on issues/events/publications related to biosafety to the Iranian public and stakeholders,
- to provide a presentation of the National Biosafety Framework project,
- to establish Iran's Biosafety Clearing House, a node of the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH) established under Article 20 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, in order to facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical, environmental and legal information on living modified organisms (LMOs); and to assist Parties to implement the Protocol. This is the pilot phase of Iran's Biosaety Clearing House.
This site is currently under development and will be further completed, especially the Farsi section of it.
This web site is currently hosted and managed by the Department of Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Executing Agency of the National Biosafety Framework.
